Today, companies are encouraged not only to comply with the environmental standards and conditions set, but also to ensure that the company's environmental impact is increasingly reduced. An annual improvement must be the ultimate goal. How this is done at company level can be described in an Environmental Care System (MZS), or Environmental Management System (MMS). Every company can develop such a system on a voluntary basis, certain companies and sectors (e.g. GPBV companies classified as having a potentially high environmental impact) are obliged to implement such a system.

The environmental aspects register

The backbone of the Environmental Care System consists of an annual risk analysis (= environmental aspects register) of the entire process in the company: where are the risks on environmental impact, how are the risks estimated and (especially) how can the possible negative environmental impact be prevented. In order to estimate the risks, the possibility of prevention, the possible impact on the environment and the correctability are evaluated. The result of this risk-analysis are the "priority action points" that will be addressed in the coming year, and the "attention points" that need to be well managed.

All information about environmental impact

Although the approach is quite technical, the Environmental Care System is more than just about the technical aspects of caring for the environment. It also includes a section focusing on the distribution of information and training concerning the environment to employees, communication with third parties (e.g. local residents, suppliers), valid quality-related procedures (if possible link to impact on the environment) and current and future legislation and additional studies already carried out / still to be carried out. In this way, the system can be considered as an uniform overall document for companies in which all information concerning environmental impact is bundled.

An Environmental Care System drawn up by Profex is a workable document - in which the existing procedures and documents of the company are taken into account as much as possible. The focus is on reducing the company's environmental impact, not on creating additional procedures and paperwork. Practical experience has shown that the implementation of such an Environmental Care System by both the company's environmental manager, the environmental coordinator and the environmental inspector is considered positive in terms of being able to assess and implement points for improvement in relation to the company's environmental impact.

Once an Environmental Care System is installed, this system is intended to be monitored and optimizations are scheduled. Every year, our consultants make a new risk analysis in which the mean time the most important risks are solved.
