Asbestinventaris
It is very important to ensure the health of individuals in the context of the removal and presence of asbestos. For employees, CODEX guarantees that a correct asbestos inventory is drawn up for their well-being at work. Flemish environmental legislation also determines policy with regard to applications containing asbestos. But you can also be confronted with the various applications at home, for example your bicycle shed roof or the pipe insulation in your basement.
Inhaling asbestos fibres leads to serious health problems, which has been a frequent topic in the news over the past few years. Asbestos can no longer be used in new materials but is still present in many buildings, on roofs and in boiler rooms. Employees and external parties can therefore come in contact with it during renovation and demolition works, during cleaning works or as a result of unexpected incidents like fire or a collapse.
Asbestos inventory required?
The law therefore requires an asbestos inventory so that anyone entering the company or building can see where the sites containing asbestos may be, what type of asbestos is involved and what measures need to be taken. The obligation is limited to those parts of the building, machinery and installations, which are easily accessible and which, in normal circumstances, may give rise to exposure to asbestos. The material must not be damaged.
Are there any works planned in hard-to-reach places or on the undamaged material, asbestos fibres may be released. This is the case, for example, with demolition and renovation work. If changes are made to the materials or buildings, the asbestos inventory must be updated. In the case of demolition work of a building volume greater than 1,000 m³, the asbestos inventory is part of the demolition follow-up plan.
